Sahra is a Ph.D. Candidate studying Somali diaspora humanitarianism in complex crises at the University of Copenhagen and the University of Nairobi. She has an MA degree in Advanced Development Studies from Radboud University in Nijmegen as well as an MA degree in Cultural Anthropology/Development Sociology from Leiden University both in the Netherlands.  She is a Somali-Dutch Development Practitioner with over 18 years of professional work experience in program management, research & policy, knowledge management, institutional strengthening, gender mainstreaming and women’s empowerment in Somalia, Kenya, the Netherlands, Sierra Leone and Zambia, to mention but a few. She has worked the past 8 years years in the education sector.

She is the co-founder of the Somalia Gender Hub – http://www.somaliagenderhub.org and she has led a number of research studies focusing on gender and women studies in Somalia. She is a poet/author and has published several books. In 2011 she won the Rabobank Poetry Award for Literature for her poetry, in Leiden, the Netherlands. She is also a regular blogger on WordPress.
